Disappointment

By Rebekah Perkins

You let your hopes soar without hardly knowing,
They fly up and up, not knowing where they are going,
But with one fatal word they come crashing down,
And you are left and the cold hard ground.

You wanted this so badly!
But, oh! Oh! It has ended so sadly,
You hit the ground harder then you thought was real,
You didn't know this hope would your heart steal.

Without you even noticing it stole your mind,
And once you thought hope to be so kind!
Now there is a knot in your throat and chest,
And disappointment will give you no rest.

You want to run and run from this crazy world,
That seems to have it's hostile flag unfurled,
But you are stuck in this cage of disappointment and sadness,
Who would have thought hope would drive you to such madness?

You wish you would've known it would be like this from the start,
So with downcast eyes and a crying heart,
You slip softly away so you can think about it all,
And are determined not to let hope make you once again fall.

You try to put on a brave face for your family and peers,
You don't want them to see all your faults and fears,
So lift up your chin and put on a smile,
Even though your heart will have this wound for a long while.
